(SPOILERS)
The book was adopted into a film that premiered on August 11, 2014. The funny thing is that, unknowingly, I watched the movie before reading the book, which isn't how I usually go about things. I can't complain, though, because I ended up preferring the movie since I am a bit of a hopeless romantic and in the book there was no romance between Jonas and Fiona. Although, the book was great too! Taylor Swift starred in the movie which was a surprise since I've very rarely seen her acting. She played the role of Rosemary, who was the past receiver of memory and daughter of the Giver. She only appeared briefly in the story since she requested "release" and we never got to see her again. I absolutely fell in love with how this book's entire theme was about the value of individuality and emotions in a bland, futuristic society. I think as humans being granted the ability to be who we are and feel all sorts of emotions on a deep emotional level makes life such a unique experience compared to other living beings. If you love dystopian movies with a happy ending, then I fully recommend you watch this! :))
