Required reading - The Great Gatsby

"The belief that anyone, regardless of their background, can attain success and happiness through hard work and determination."

I was required to read The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald for a class I took in the past, and it has now become one of my most favorite books. When I was first introduced to it, I had no idea what it was going to be about and I slightly disliked it since I've never ended up liking books that I was forced to read for school. School books were either just super easy to guess through or plain out boring. But not this one. This book was shrouded with an air of mystery that made it hard to put it down. I really enjoyed its deeper meaning and all the symbolism within it; Fitzgerald quite literally created a work of art and not a single word went to waste. I love books that have multiple interpretations and room for debate since it stimulates my curiosity and imagination, and this book did just that.

If schools could only choose one book to require students to read, I'd say It has to be this one! Although It may be hard to read for some students, this book has a tale to tell about the past of our country that we should all be aware of : The American Dream. I don't want to spoil the ending or include many details, but the deeper meaning of this book is easy to oversee, especially those who are inexperienced readers. I figured that by having the help of other peers and teachers, this would be an easier book to understand for those who may need extra support. If I had to rate this book, I'd give it a 10/10 and would probably re-read it again in the future. I appreciate the school for letting me keep a copy of it! :)

"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgasmic future that year by year recedes before us."
